I am not like I was before. Past-me had a level of confidence that I still can’t understand, but that confidence has served me well as I navigated life through work as a babysitter, a waitress, a nanny, a receptionist, a pizza delivery driver, an ESL instructor, a substitute teacher, a non-profit youth programming director, a non-profit public relations director, a summer camp counselor, a house painter, a retail worker, a non-profit youth outreach specialist, a cigarette girl, a writer, a photographer, an artist, a preparator, a graphic designer, a curator, a project manager, and a caregiver. Artist is the work I’ve done the longest, obviously, or I wouldn’t have a website with art on it. I’ve been a working artist since 2005.
Like many, my worldview has shifted significantly since 2016. Too many awful things have happened since then, and as I proceed through the remainder of my life, I choose to actively pursue not awful experiences. A shift through active deconstruction has not made me less confident, but it has found me choosing quieter and less complex modes of operation. I am uncertain of how this will manifest in my object-making art career. I am free, so I can make decisions as I go.
